| pare che fosse solo un rumour e Penn non lo farà! CITAZIONE Oh, Hollywood, when will you ever quit it with the rumor mill?
Earlier this week, word got around that Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley secured the title role in the long-awaited biopic of musician Jeff Buckley, a popular ’90s alternative rock artist who died an untimely death in 1997 at the age of 30.
Buckley gained widespread recognition with his poetic debut full-length, Grace. Although it only garnered mixed reviews upon its initial release, Grace has now sold more than 2 million copies worldwide.
A biopic has been in the works for the last six years, helmed by producers Orian Williams, Michelle Sy and Mary Guibert. Williams debunked the Badgley rumors yesterday in a phone interview with the LA Times.
“Penn is not involved in the film at all,” Williams told the LA Times. “It’s crazy how these stories get out.”
Perhaps the rumors started as a way to spark a teen heartthrob tabloid fodder between Padgley and Twilight star Robert Pattinson, who is also rumored to be in contention for the sought-after role. Williams, however, also debunked those rumors, claiming Pattinson is interested in auditioning for the role, but an audition has yet to take place.
When the news was reported earlier this year that the Buckley biopic was finally being green-lit, many speculated that actor-poet-professional student extraordinaire James Franco would secure the role for his similar dark features to Buckley and his acting chops (Oscar co-hosting aside, Franco can act). The producers, however, failed to comment on Franco this week.
Besides, Franco is probably too busy writing a poem, shooting fashion photography or lecturing at a university, anyway.
